History of Self’s Inc.
Self’s Inc. was established in 1938 in Wichita, Kansas, as R.L. Self Linoleum & Shade
Company, a retail floor covering company.
R.L. Self Linoleum & Shade Company was established by Leah A. & Robert L. Self. The company continued in the retail floor covering business until the mid “50’s”. At that time, the transition was made from retail to wholesale. The wholesale company was a ceramic tile and laminated plastics distributor. In the mid “60’s”, the company entered the resilient floor covering business. In 1981 the company established an office and warehouse facility in a suburb of Kansas City (Lenexa, KS).
In the fall of 1986, our next major growth was the opening of our warehouse in Springfield, Missouri. In 1997 we opened a new warehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City in 1999.
Self’s is a distributor of flooring products, distributing Johnsonite / Tarkett vinyl and rubber flooring, Alloc Laminate & GWC Hardwood Flooring, Azrock VCT, Alta Porcelain Collection & GTC Ceramic & Porcelain Tile, Karndean International LVT. Self’s offers a complete sundry supply business, which includes carpet cushion (Future Foam) and installation materials for all of the above.
